As a Teaching Artist, I see everyday the power that music and the arts have in students’ lives. This spring I had a student come up to me as I was heading into their class and say with weight in his voice, “Your song saved my life”.  Young people in our schools deal with more challenges than just learning their subject matter in the classroom and after talking with the teacher; in fact, this student did face those challenges outside of their academic environment.
